DENALI JEEP®
BACKCOUNTRY SAFARI
You and your fellow adventurers will take the wheel and follow
your guide on a spectacular off-road journey on the Stampede
trail not shown on most Alaska maps. This road was carved out
of the wilderness by early miners working the area’s Kantishna
gold fields and Antimony mine. The Stampede Road gained notoriety
more recently when John Krakauer’s best-selling book,
Into The Wild, was published. This is the very same road that
young Christopher McCandless, subject of the book, took to enter
the wild, but never returned.
The first few miles of the Stampede
Road are paved, but beyond that point your guide will lead you
along some very primitive roadway providing you with plenty
of bumps, dips and sways. Your Jeep Wrangler® carries four
guests, and there will be several stops to switch drivers, so
everyone can enjoy the thrill of maneuvering along this wilderness
road. Interactive two-way radios allow your guide to interpret
the area. You will stop for a break at a wilderness camp where
you can enjoy a small "wilderness" cooked meal. Transfers
in Denali are included. *not recommended for very small
children.*

& under) Drivers must be 25 yrs. old w/ valid D.L. Departs: 7:15am, 11:15am, and 5:45pm Duration: 3.5 hours Dates of operation: June 1-September 17

E N A L I S I G H T S E E I N G S
A F A R I
This trip was designed with the idea of taking people into the
back country of Denali, away from crowds, buses and dusty roads.
There are only two roads into the park, the road to Kantishna
(the one all the buses take) and the seldom used trail Denali
Sightseeing Safaris uses. The biggest obstacle was the river
on this road and we needed the ability to cross at any time
all summer.
Our customized "MONSTER"
truck solves the problem. We travel a meandering 30 miles
round trip, crossing two glacial streams, up past the timberline
to the alpine tundra into the Alaska Range. The history of
the settlers and area comes alive as we follow the trail used
by early explorers.
Once at the historic Golden
One Mine, we’ll stretch our legs and take a walking
tour. Along the way you will see wildlife, spawning salmon,
alpine flowers, remnants of Alaska’s past and much more.
Then there is one hour of free
time to go gold panning, hiking or driving farther up into the
high country. Playing in the snow is also an option, as few
patches remain all year.
This tour takes the "back
road" into Denali. It is a great tour for those that
want a more "rugged" and dare I say "Alaskan"
park experience. The trail is in good shape with a few bumps
in the road; however they do not go off-trail to protect the
tundra, trees and vegetation. Do to inclement weather, dress
warm, bring an extra coat, rain gear, hats, gloves, a sense
of adventure, and most
important a camera and a sack lunch for a picnic in the wilderness.
Rate: $140.00 Adults - $70.00 Child (12 and
under)

Departs: 8am & 4:30pm

THE
PARK SERVICE SHUTTLE BUS
This option provides and informal and inexpensive way to get
into the park with prices from $19.50 per person to $37.50,
plus a $10.00 pp or $20.00 family entrance fee. Lunches range
from $10-$13, order from the front desk of your hotel as there
is NO food service inside the park.
You can drive the first 13 miles
into the park, beyond that, if you want to see the wildlife
and Mt. McKinley you need to take a bus ride (the park road
is 95 miles long). This shuttle is not sold as a narrated
tour, but it has been our experience that you get a lot of
information, but of course there is no guarantee. Call or
visit their website for additional information 1-800-622-7275,
or www.nps.gov/dena , Reservations online begin in December,
by phone in February.
NO food service
is provided or available once inside the park. The Creekside
Cafe can do a light to hearty sack lunch for these trips.
Order the night before, as the café is very busy in
the morning.
It ultimately
depends on what you want out of your park tour and budget
constraints.
I hope this information helps with your trip planning.

Denali River Safaris would
like to extend and invitation to visit the "REAL ALASKA".
The tourist pipeline in Alaska offers many great opportunities
for sightseeing and wildlife viewing, but not many for rubbing
shoulders with and learning from real Alaskans. This is a
small family run business and their "staff" are
friends & family showing and sharing their world with
you. They are dog mushers, trappers, gold miners, artists,
craftsmen, hunting guides and woodsman. They live and work
here year-round and are anxious to show you how they support
the land that supports them. How do they do it? Well, getting
there is half the fun! They take you by jet boat miles into
the wilderness up the Nenana River to the camp where they
make their living. You will see the sights they see every
day. There is extraordinary mountain scenery at every bend
in the river. Once at their camp they will demonstrate and
tell you about the activities that keep them busy in this
magnificent place throughout the year. You will taste their
food, hear their stories and learn about their lifestyle.
Although they are not the primary
focus of the tour, there is always the possibility that you
will cross paths with wildlife. Our neighbors are caribou, moose,
wolves and bears, to name a few. The boat launch is less than
10 minutes from McKinley Creekside Cabins.

Fairbanks is a great
day excursion
from Denali National Park
If you would like to go to visit
Fairbanks, but do not want to overnight, or if you are planning
on staying over we can help arrange these activities. Below
is a list of the two best excursions available. I do recommend
that if you are interested in doing Fairbanks as a day excursion
that you plan on 3-4 days in Denali, to enjoy the park and
have a full day in Fairbanks. It does make for a long day,
but then shortens your trip back to Anchorage. The average
drive time to Fairbanks from Denali is 2 ½ hours one
way.
